About the Role

Cooley is seeking an Associate Director of Marketing to join the Marketing team within the Litigation practice. The role involves leading marketing and client development activities for assigned practice groups, driving revenue through brand building and cultivating client relationships. The Associate Director will interact with practice group leaders and partners, devise marketing strategies, and foster a collaborative team environment, all aligned with the firm's overall strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing and business development plans for assigned practice group(s), industries, and individual partners in conjunction with practice group leaders and the Director of Marketing - Litigation.
  • Act as a thought leader to practice group leadership and partners on marketing best practices to build brand, aid client development, and cultivate new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate within and across marketing departments, practice groups, and stakeholders on strategies, initiatives, projects, and client development opportunities.
  • Lead the marketing budget for assigned practice groups, guiding strategy in budget deployment to maximize brand and client development opportunities.
  • Support lateral partner integration by acting as the marketing liaison to accelerate onboarding and integration into the firm.
  • Create annual marketing plans and budgets, manage marketing staff to execute priorities, projects, and events.
  • Develop marketing materials including qualifications, pitch decks, experience lists, website content, and related materials.
  • Oversee responses to RFPs/RFIs in collaboration with the Pitch & Proposal team.
  • Execute firm-sponsored and industry participation events, sponsorships, client dinners, and related activities.
  • Lead strategy development and execution of directory and awards submissions.
  • Drive thought leadership initiatives such as speaking engagements, webinars, blogs, and whitepapers.
  • Monitor industry trends and champion initiatives to create institutional clients through cross-selling services and practice groups.
  • Collaborate with Communications on brand and marketing campaigns and PR/media requests.
  • Advocate for the use of firm technologies like CRM and experience management databases to support client and business development.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to attorneys and staff, ensuring a motivated team effort.
  • Manage staffing, review time logs, support professional development, and participate in hiring and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours as required.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of applicable experience in sales and/or marketing roles, including 4 years of management experience, with some at the senior level preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM tools.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Significant prior experience in sales and marketing organizations.
  • Prior experience in a professional services organization and/or law firm.
  • Supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in sales and/or marketing roles.
  • 4+ years of management experience, some at the senior level.

  • Competitive compensation package with an expected annual pay range of $225,000 - $265,000, dependent on location and experience.
