About the Role

The Associate Director of Marketing - Litigation at Cooley is responsible for leading marketing and client development activities for the Litigation practice group. The role involves driving revenue through brand building, cultivating client relationships, and executing strategic marketing campaigns. The position requires collaboration with practice leaders and partners, fostering a team-oriented environment, and implementing service excellence standards to support the firm's growth and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing and business development plans for assigned practice groups, industries, and individual partners in conjunction with practice group leaders and the Director of Marketing - Litigation.
  • Act as a thought leader to practice group leadership and partners on marketing best practices to build brand, aid client development, and cultivate new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate within and across marketing departments, practice groups, and stakeholders on strategies, initiatives, projects, and client development opportunities.
  • Lead the marketing budget for assigned practice groups, guiding strategy in budget deployment to maximize brand and client development opportunities.
  • Support lateral partner integration by acting as the marketing liaison to accelerate onboarding and integration into the firm.
  • Create annual marketing plans and budgets, manage marketing staff to execute priorities, projects, and events.
  • Develop marketing materials including qualifications, pitch decks, experience lists, website content, and related materials.
  • Oversee responses to RFPs/RFIs in collaboration with the Pitch & Proposal team.
  • Execute firm-sponsored and industry participation events, sponsorships, client dinners, and related activities.
  • Lead the development and execution of thought leadership initiatives such as speaking engagements, webinars, blogs, and whitepapers.
  • Monitor industry trends and client needs to create institutional clients through cross-selling services and practice groups.
  • Collaborate with Communications on brand and marketing campaigns and respond to PR/media requests.
  • Advocate for the use of firm technologies like CRM and experience management databases to support client and business development.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to attorneys and staff, ensuring a motivated team effort.
  • Support professional development, participate in hiring, performance reviews, and employee lifecycle events.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours as required.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of applicable experience in sales and/or marketing roles, including 4 years of management experience, with some at the senior level preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM tools.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Significant prior experience in sales and marketing organizations.
  • Prior experience in a professional services organization and/or law firm.
  • Supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in sales and/or marketing roles.
  • 4+ years of management experience, some at the senior level.

  • Competitive compensation package with an expected annual pay range of $225,000 - $265,000, dependent on location and experience.
