About the Role

The Associate Director of Marketing Strategy at the Oakland Museum of California develops institutional digital/content marketing and digital engagement strategies to support the museum's revenue and social impact goals. The role involves overseeing the museum's owned web properties, SEO/SEM strategy, email marketing, and social media strategy. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Museum's mission, values, vision, and core commitment to visitor experience, community engagement, and institutional relevancy.
  • Contribute to and support the OMCA strategic plan, annual priorities, and initiatives such as diversity advancement.
  • Participate in fostering a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, cooperation, and openness to diverse perspectives.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive and integrated digital strategy in collaboration with the Senior Director and stakeholders.
  • Plan, develop, and execute digital marketing and engagement activities to support museum enterprises and drive revenue from exhibitions, programs, memberships, donations, digital projects, and other revenue streams.
  • Create effective, brand-specific approaches to owned digital properties through hands-on work, mentorship, and guidance.
  • Develop optimization and enhancement roadmaps for websites, apps, social platforms, and other owned properties, incorporating user needs, best practices, and technological capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of IT to plan and implement website projects focusing on user experience and design, ensuring adherence to brand standards and support for e-commerce goals.
  • Oversee the SEO/SEM strategy to ensure platforms are optimized for organic and paid search discoverability.
  • Develop and execute email marketing strategies targeting segments to support revenue goals.
  • Define digital KPIs, monitor performance, and evaluate the success of digital efforts, providing regular reports.
  • Ensure digital engagement efforts are integrated with marketing and advertising programs and leverage analytics for optimization.
  • Manage the digital strategy budget in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Provide team leadership, mentorship, and manage performance and priorities of direct reports.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support museum goals.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of related experience in digital marketing or strategy.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Ability to deliver results, facilitate, influence others, and solve problems.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working within and managing brand guidelines.
  • Significant experience leveraging digital marketing and engagement strategies to deepen visitor engagement, expand audiences, and drive revenue.
  • Experience overseeing complex website development projects and mobile-first practices.
  • Ability to optimize websites for audience engagement and e-commerce.
  • Advanced knowledge of web development platforms and content management systems.
  • Proficiency in front-end web development skills including HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of SEO/SEM principles including keyword research and content optimization.
  • Experience managing email and social media campaigns, understanding digital advertising and content marketing best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage data analytics, with advanced knowledge of Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Data Studio.
  • Proficiency with social media and email marketing platforms and analytics.
  • Experience with project management techniques.
  • English language proficiency; second language (Spanish or Mandarin) desirable.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office/Google apps.
