Job Description

About the Role

At Sony Music Entertainment, we fuel the creative journey. We've played a pioneering role in music history, from the first-ever music label to the invention of the flat disc record. We've nurtured some of music's most iconic artists and produced some of the most influential recordings of all time. Today, we work in more than 70 countries, supporting a diverse roster of international superstars, developing and independent artists, and visionary creators. From our position at the intersection of music, entertainment, and technology, we bring imagination and expertise to the newest products and platforms, embrace new business models, employ breakthrough tools, and provide powerful insights that help our artists push creative boundaries and reach new audiences. In everything we do, we're committed to artistic integrity, transparency, and entrepreneurship. Sony Music Entertainment is a member of the Sony family of global companies. As Associate Director, RCA Analytics, you will be a key driver of data-led decision-making at RCA, turning numbers into insights that inform how we release music, develop artists, run campaigns, and identify new opportunities. You'll help shape our understanding of fan behavior and performance trends - playing a vital role in breaking the next generation of artists and guiding the trajectory of some of the biggest names in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform deep-dive research to uncover insights into trends across the music industry, competitors, social platforms, streaming services, and listener behavior to inform how new music is released and marketed.
  • Leverage data from social platforms and digital marketing campaigns to identify performance trends and audience insights, delivering strategic recommendations that enhance campaign effectiveness and support the label's broader digital and fan engagement strategy.
  • Strengthen our understanding of artist fanbases by developing new strategies to collect and analyze psychographic and behavioral data - including interests, brand affinities, platform usage, identity markers, and values - to better acquire, segment, and engage fans.
  • Assist in developing data tools and dashboards that integrate streaming, social, and audience data to track artist growth, uncover opportunities, and generate insights that guide both internal strategy and A&R evaluations of potential signings.
  • Enhance the label's social analytics capabilities by identifying key data sources, automating data collection processes, and creating tools and reports that surface actionable insights.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with data.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and other programming languages and business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Alteryx.
  • A blend of analyst and data developer skills, capable of uncovering insights from complex data and building workflows and dashboards.
  • Advanced knowledge of all primary MS Office software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from data and propose effective solutions.
  • Passion for the music and entertainment business and a desire to build a career in the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for collaboration with team members, external partners, and senior management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing data tools and dashboards.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics and digital marketing strategies.
  • Experience in the music industry or entertainment sector.

Qualifications

  • Educational background or certifications are not explicitly specified, but at least 5 years of relevant experience is required.

Benefits & Perks

  • Inclusive, collaborative, and global community environment.
  • Modern office designed to foster productivity, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life & disability coverage, and 401K with employer matching.
  • Voluntary benefits such as identity theft protection, mental health resources, fertility coverage, paid leave for childbirth, caregiving, and adoption assistance.
  • Investment in professional growth and development.
  • Time off for winter recess.
