About the Role

HUB International Insurance Services Inc administers Contractor Development and Bonding Programs (CDABPs) for public and private entities seeking to maximize small and diverse contractor involvement in public construction. The Contractor Development Account Manager role is part of this mission, focusing on supporting small and diverse construction businesses through assessments, bonding, and growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct contractor assessments, develop workplans, profiles, and growth cards.
  • Assist contractors in obtaining bonds and increasing overall bond capacity.
  • Review all financial documents for contractors before submitting surety bond applications or requests.
  • Act as an advisor and liaison between contractors, surety agencies, and insurance agencies, providing business advice and management consulting to support growth.
  • Assist with identifying and delivering appropriate education and training workshops and seminars to contractors, including preparation of training materials and logistics.
  • Assist with identification of rightsized project opportunities.
  • Conduct bid preparation and reviews, including prime partner match making.
  • Support contractors with prequalification processes such as certification, safety, and insurance.
  • Ensure bond requests and amounts meet contractors' business needs at competitive rates.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with contractors and surety brokers, nurturing these relationships post-bond issuance.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to clients, insurance carriers, underwriters, and colleagues to meet or exceed account retention goals.
  • Review current, past, and future contracts or bids to assess risk for both the surety agency and the contractor.
  • Manage, organize, and conduct client meetings; travel may be required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized account files, document conversations, and update agency management systems.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and comparisons for management as needed.
  • Stay informed of industry changes and external conditions impacting clients, making appropriate recommendations and attending continuing education courses.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • 3-5 years of related construction and surety bond experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Property & Casualty license preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of surety bonds (bid, payment, performance) and/or the construction industry, especially public works construction.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the role.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and agency management systems.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze solutions and problems.
  • Desire to learn and grow within the insurance industry.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ability to respond to customer needs and handle difficult situations promptly.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and coach others.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and evaluate complex issues.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with property & casualty insurance licensing.
  • Experience working with construction and surety bonds.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years of relevant construction and surety bond experience.
