Job Description

About the Role

The Data Analyst SR. is a key part of the Store Operations Shrink and RFID Team at Nordstrom, responsible for managing large-scale projects that deliver significant business value. The role involves partnering with Asset Protection, Product, Technology, and Enterprise Operations to analyze shrink signals enabled by RFID and inventory health, leading and supporting tactic measurement and deployment across stores using the Golden Data Set. The analyst triangulates data on shrink impact, labor impact, and sales impact at various organizational levels to identify new tactics, communicate insights, and ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, integration, and analysis of diverse data sources such as RFID signals, inventory metrics, and sales data.
  • Drive analysis with minimal oversight, applying strong business acumen to shape inquiries and deliver decision-ready insights.
  • Proactively move from insights to implications, drafting compelling leadership-ready storylines.
  • Provide expertise in senior leadership forums to support decision-making around tactical shrink activations aimed at addressing root causes.
  • Monitor Shrink signals weekly and share insights that lead to identifying root causes.
  • Acquire and transform data to support ongoing and ad hoc insights and analysis.
  • Perform measurement analysis, identify underperforming tactics, and contextualize results for actioning.
  • Align cross-functional teams to tasks and identify employees best positioned to complete them.
  • Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for project progression.
  • Communicate status, issues, and changes with stakeholders down to the executive level to keep projects aligned with their goals.
  • Adjust schedules and targets as needs or financing change.
  • Manage full project lifecycle including requirements, scope, schedule, resources, testing, quality, release, costs, and changes for cross-functional initiatives.
  • Conduct complex statistical analyses, identify measures, and conduct experimentation on new tactics.
  • Look into new tactic deployment, measurement, and testing based on insights.
  • Set requirements for goals/targets and project manage to achieve financial milestones.
  • Oversee ongoing phasing and continuous improvement.
  • Manage stakeholders on the upkeep of data sources.
  • Manage individual to multiple highly complex projects and resolve workstream breakdowns.
  • Apply project management concepts, theories, and principles with business insights to projects.
  • Create long- and short-term plans, set targets for milestones, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Perform quality control throughout project development to identify problems and solutions to maintain standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of related work experience in extracting, manipulating, and analyzing data to deliver business insights.
  • Expert in SQL with ability to write repeatable, robust code, optimize database concepts, and acquire data from multiple sources efficiently.
  • Expert knowledge of at least one programming language for analysis, modeling, and automation, with the ability to select appropriate tools and assess trade-offs.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively apply descriptive and inferential statistical methods to answer complex business questions.
  • Ability to conduct analyses with complex analytical storytelling and recommendations, creating narratives for business change.
  • Experience using visualizations to summarize large data sets and highlight key insights, combining statistical knowledge with graphical design.
  • Experience related to Brick-and-Mortar Retailers.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in a quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
