About the Role

The Digital Content Strategist at American University is responsible for managing digital content across web properties, supporting university-wide initiatives, and ensuring effective engagement with key audiences through various digital platforms. The role involves collaborating with marketing and communications teams to optimize content, analyze metrics, and stay current with digital trends, all within a hybrid work environment at a renowned research institution in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the director of digital communication strategy and the web manager to prepare and audit content and manage updates of the university's digital content, including the homepage, division and college/school pages, and other key microsites.
  • Partner with the director of digital communication strategy and the social media manager to integrate the social and online editorial strategy.
  • Work with photography and video teams, public relations managers, magazine team, and publications to utilize and optimize content using best practices.
  • Collaborate on content adjustments to the website using metrics to enhance time spent on site, bounce, and engagement.
  • Glean actionable insights from content metrics, make recommendations based on analytics, and educate internal audiences.
  • Stay current with relevant and emerging trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource on social media/web best practices.
  • Perform other duties and specific projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and curating authentic, strategic, and audience-driven digital content.
  • Understanding of web content best practices, including information architecture, responsive design, usability, accessibility, and SEO.
  • Experience with developing content using content management systems.
  • Experience using Google Analytics or other website and social media analytical tools.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent editorial, interpersonal, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web development technologies.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with web usability and accessibility standards.
  • Experience with web development technologies and software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
