About the Role

The Digital Content Strategist at American University is responsible for managing digital content across university web properties, supporting marketing initiatives, and ensuring effective engagement with key audiences. The role involves collaborating with various teams to optimize content, analyze metrics, and stay current with digital trends within a student-centered research institution located in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the director of digital communication strategy and the web manager to prepare and audit content and manage updates of the university's digital content, including the homepage, division and college/school pages, and other key microsites.
  • Collaborate with the social media manager to integrate social and online editorial strategies.
  • Work with photography, video teams, public relations managers, and publications to utilize and optimize content using best practices.
  • Adjust website content based on metrics to enhance user engagement, including time spent on site and bounce rates.
  • Analyze content metrics, make data-driven recommendations, and educate internal audiences on best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging trends, issues, and opportunities in digital content and marketing.
  • Serve as a resource on social media and web best practices.
  • Perform other duties and specific projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in digital content or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and curating authentic, strategic, and audience-driven digital content.
  • Knowledge of web content best practices, including information architecture, responsive design, usability, accessibility, and SEO.
  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics or other website and social media analytical tools.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent editorial, interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web development technologies.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing content using content management systems.
  • Familiarity with web usability and industry standards.
  • Experience with developing content for social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of paid advertising and marketing analytics.

Qualifications
