About the Role

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students with a diverse community speaking 62 different languages. The Digital Marketing & Content Specialist works as part of the Communications Team to enhance the district's image and support its strategic goals through multi-channel marketing campaigns and digital content management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and analyze creative, multi-channel marketing campaigns for district programs and initiatives, leveraging digital, print, and emerging platforms.
  • Collaborate with communications team members to coordinate brand awareness and marketing efforts, ensuring alignment with district goals and messaging.
  • Co-manage and create content for all district social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok), including paid social campaigns, short-form video, and real-time engagement.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on social media and digital campaign performance using analytics tools; recommend and implement strategies for growth and engagement.
  • Manage and update district website content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility (ADA compliance), and alignment with brand standards; collaborate with IT and Communications to implement improvements and new features.
  • Optimize website content for search engines (SEO) and monitor website analytics to inform content strategy and improve user experience.
  • Coordinate and design digital newsletters and email marketing campaigns; manage subscriber lists and analyze engagement metrics.
  • Create compelling written, visual, and video content tailored to diverse audiences, including students, families, staff, and the community.
  • Maintain and enforce brand guidelines across all digital and print materials.
  • Support and collaborate with the Communications Team on district-wide special events and initiatives.
  • Provide marketing support for internal and external communications, including crisis communications and rapid-response messaging.
  • Stay current on digital marketing trends, tools, and best practices; recommend and implement innovative strategies to enhance district communications.
  • Mentor and share expertise with team members, supporting professional growth within the team.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Video and editing skills required.
  • Social Media experience required.
  • Experience with writing newsletters, marketing campaigns, advertising copy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with district staff, media personnel, parents, students, and community groups.
  • Ability to proofread prose and graphic materials, and edit the written work of others.
  • Ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Lightroom software.

Qualifications

  • Educational background: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
