About the Role

The Director, Development at Scripps Health in Encinitas is responsible for leading major gift fundraising efforts to support the hospital's philanthropic initiatives, including the Here for Good capital campaign. This role involves representing Scripps and the Foundation to donors, community leaders, and medical staff, and playing an integral part in achieving system-wide fundraising goals. The position is based in Encinitas with one day remote work per week and offers participation in the Director Incentive Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play an essential role in meeting the Foundation's system-wide fundraising goals and supporting specific needs of Scripps Memorial Encinitas.
  • Cultivate and solicit major gifts ($25K+) from individuals for priority projects, centers, programs, or campaigns, with or without volunteer assistance.
  • Work with various constituents, including medical staff, community leaders, and donors, to steward existing donors and cultivate new donors.
  • Develop and optimize strategies with Foundation staff to secure major gifts for areas of responsibility.
  • Provide stewardship to all major donors within areas of responsibility.
  • Establish regular communication with key individuals from hospitals, centers, or programs to identify operational, capital, and endowment funding needs.
  • Represent Scripps and present institutional case and funding priorities to civic groups and other organizations.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least 2 years of college-level coursework plus five years of fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising.
  • Knowledge of philanthropic fund development, including estate planning regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers, physicians, patients, and donors.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Creative, results-oriented, self-starting, and team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong sense of ethical conduct.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience in a medical setting.
  • Capital campaign experience.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of college coursework.
  • Five years of fundraising experience.
  • Proven success in major gift fundraising.
