About the Role

The Director, Market Access Transformation & Strategic Marketing at Vertex is responsible for leading the development of a strategic 'above-brand' market access platform to guide portfolio investments and support customer engagement across Vertex's portfolio. This highly visible, cross-functional role involves advancing market access initiatives, integrating insights, and ensuring strategic alignment to maximize value for patients and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and integrate Above Brand/Unbranded initiatives across the Vertex portfolio to advance customer interactions across mega accounts and broad, sustainable access, including solution development, implementation, pull-through, and measurement alongside cross-functional leaders.
  • Define strategic payer collaborations with mega accounts across various therapeutic categories, in partnership with HEOR.
  • Partner with the Access COE and CRM teams responsible for customer and data insight tracking across the access environment and Vertex portfolio.
  • Evaluate alternative contracting frameworks such as VBC, OBA, and warranties that support the clinical profile of the product and facilitate measurement of desired outcomes.
  • Deliver impactful insights and analysis to shape go-to-market strategies.
  • Manage market access assessments and environmental scans to inform long-range planning, including development of action plans to manage risks and opportunities.
  • Provide an annual landscape assessment across all access channels to support brand planning and upcoming launches, establishing product prioritization across access channels.
  • Partner with external agencies and vendors as needed, ensuring approvals and budget allocation.
  • Establish a value framework and communication platform to deliver portfolio value propositions via HEOR integration, leveraging IT capabilities for maximum customer engagement.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of the US healthcare system, including government and commercial payers, hospitals, IDNs, policy, and the regulatory environment.
  • Previous strategic leadership experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry, with mega account experience.
  • Understanding of alternative Value-Based Contracts and ability to evaluate various models to support initiatives like OBA and warranties.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals both individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to customers and internal leadership.
  • Ability to navigate cross-functional teams, influence without direct authority, and foster collaboration in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Deep market access experience (10+ years) across all channels, including payer marketing, contracting, and account management.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing market access strategies and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of health equity, quality, and population health collaborations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 10-12 years of deep market access experience across all channels, including payer marketing, contracting, and account management.
