About the Role

The Director, Marketing leads a team of Marketing professionals at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). They are responsible for the effective marketing of IFT products, services, and programs, working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to drive marketing efforts that increase revenue, enhance the brand, and align with IFT's strategic objectives. The role requires a deep understanding of marketing principles, audience engagement, and strategic communication to support organizational goals and promote the IFT brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops primary strategies and provides leadership for IFT Marketing efforts and team.
  • Supports the achievement of IFT's business goals by leading a team and internal partners through the ideation, planning, development, execution, and ongoing assessment of marketing program metrics and strategy.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of target audiences and partners with the channels team to identify appropriate channels and implementation activities based on strategic plans.
  • Understands the full-funnel approach to lead generation and collaborates with Sales and Channels teams to develop targeted outreach driven by data.
  • Engages with and manages expectations of stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners.
  • Serves as a key partner and counselor to internal stakeholders, understanding their goals and timelines to develop engaging plans that drive results.
  • Partners with Content and Channels teams to use data for decision-making on content development, timing, and channels.
  • Ensures compliance with industry and legal regulations, best practices, and company processes.
  • Collaborates with Sales team on sales and sponsorship initiatives by developing and implementing targeted marketing tactics.
  • Responsible for marketing strategies, counsel, and execution for Sales, Knowledge and Learning (KLE), and Science & Policy Initiative offerings.
  • Develops audiences to drive increased sales and engagement, including advertising and programming.
  • Works closely with IFT FIRST Marketing lead on efforts related to the Scientific Program at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo.
  • Partners with the KLE team to ensure product designs reflect audience needs and organizational goals.
  • Develops and implements integrated marketing strategies to reach new audiences and generate marketing qualified leads.
  • Contributes to the development of sales and science-related content and branding materials for IFT FIRST.
  • Facilitates scalable email and LinkedIn outreach systems to create sales funnels.
  • Ensures clarity and simplicity in messaging across channels to create an engaging experience for audiences.
  • Seeks opportunities to engage new audience groups to increase exposure, sales, and revenue.
  • Manages two direct reports and external vendor relationships.
  • Occasional domestic travel including evening, weekend, and overnight meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in an association or education-focused environment or equivalent background.
  • 8+ years of experience managing marketing for multiple product lines.
  • 8+ years of strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 8+ years of experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • 5+ years of experience in demand and lead generation in partnership with sales or advertising teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Digitally proficient.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with HubSpot or similar email marketing platforms.
  • Experience with content marketing at a food, health, or scientific organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in marketing roles.

  • Salary range: $95,000 to $105,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
