About the Role

The Director, Marketing Innovation - Surgical Solutions is responsible for leading upstream marketing efforts focused on new product innovation within the Biosurgery and Infection Prevention segments of BD's Surgical Solutions Platform. This role involves partnering with senior leadership to develop and execute innovation strategies aimed at reducing surgical complications through innovative technologies and services. The position requires managing and contributing to the growth of the platform, demonstrating leadership in portfolio development, and working across cross-functional teams in a high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and upskills team on standard processes and takeaways related to new product development.
  • Helps establish the short-term and long-term direction and strategies for the business platform, in collaboration with Platform and Regional leadership.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of phase gate new product development process, front end innovation to launch, including gathering and categorizing unmet needs, formulating target product profiles (TPP), and developing evidence generation plans.
  • Gathers market intelligence and trends, technology development, clinical needs, and white space opportunities; conducts competitive scenario modeling.
  • Conducts market research using various methodologies to identify unmet needs, map patient journeys, and analyze clinical pathways.
  • Supports analysis of market research to develop comprehensive NPD strategy and validate User Needs for commercialization.
  • Leads identification and selection of promising organic and inorganic business innovation opportunities.
  • Partners and collaborates with regional business leaders, R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, and other functions to ensure development and execution of innovation projects.
  • Prepares and presents new business opportunities to senior leaders based on financial, market, IP, and technological assessments.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in business, science, marketing, or healthcare; MBA with concentration in marketing or finance preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product and/or market management.
  • Track record of delivering strategic and financial objectives in roles of increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in developing and driving innovation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams; experience managing direct reports is ideal.
  • Medical device industry experience.
  • Skilled at business and financial analysis.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving skills with a growth mindset and influencing abilities.
  • Highly self-motivated, results-focused leader capable of thriving in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical skills to identify market trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Customer-oriented with ability to understand unmet needs and inform strategic focus.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and persuasion skills.
  • Understanding of P&L, distribution channels, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.

  • Experience with portfolio development and innovation in medical technology.
  • Experience with strategic planning and market analysis tools.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in business, science, marketing, or healthcare.
  • MBA with concentration in marketing or finance (preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
