About the Role

As Director, Engineering Leader, you will develop and maintain the customer experience across the Kohl's MarTech ecosystem. You will oversee engineering teams, be an active participant in Kohl's Technology Engineering Practice, and work to advance great architecture and engineering across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Drive the development of leading-edge engineering practices across assigned product lines
Drive the Engineering practice at the organization level and collaborate with partners to help drive technology decisions and choices to help improve efficiencies and reduce costs
Provide thought leadership and work closely with the enterprise architecture team to create a bi-directional communication path to bring new ideas and technologies to the company
Foster and drive consistent use of technologies and standards
Ensure that the developed software works and adheres to standards
Lead the creation of engineering capabilities to reduce friction and increase output
Ensure that technologies are optimally used and appropriate patterns are used for solving the problem
Collaborate with engineering practice on technology roadmaps, understand industry best practices, and contribute to standard platforms and technologies
Ensure engineers pair effectively for knowledge sharing and actively develop engineering talent
Set the direction for engineering teams to create compelling, intuitive, and engaging solutions while fostering a high-energy, iterative, and collaborative environment
Guide the creation of actionable insights through analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
Engage with product teams and end customers to understand product usage and learn from customer feedback
Perform additional tasks as assigned

Requirements

Proven experience in building, deploying, and managing complex, highly scalable, and secure solutions
Proven data-driven engineering leadership and ability to influence technology choices and decisions
Background in building frameworks, using open source frameworks, and implementing development practices like CI/CD, Test Automation, and cloud deployments
Experience setting a technical strategy or direction for building platforms
Experience working with teams of designers, engineers, and product managers to create organizational solutions
Ability to build customer-obsessed solutions based on data and participate in discussions to drive next-generation solutions
Proven development of team members through coaching, performance feedback, and development plans
Ability to manage both local and remote teams
Experience overseeing vendor management, contract negotiations, and technology value realization
Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale programs and complex vendor ecosystems
Ability to prioritize across broad demands, form strong opinions, and drive stakeholder alignment

Nice to Have

Strong knowledge of Java, event-based architecture, caching solutions
Strong working experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and integration patterns
Experience with client-side web frameworks or app development on iOS and Android
Deep and broad knowledge of platforms, Big Data, frontend and backend technologies
Ability to travel 30% of the time
