About the Role

The Director of Marketing - Beauty is a strategic and creative leadership role responsible for overseeing the company's comprehensive marketing efforts. Based in Los Angeles, this freelance position involves leading brand marketing, storytelling, integrated campaigns, communications, creative development, events, digital initiatives, and DTC strategies. The role reports directly to the President and CEO/Founder and requires a candidate with a proven track record of building strong consumer brands and managing high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve brand positioning and marketing vision, executing go-to-market strategy across all consumer touchpoints.
  • Translate business objectives into actionable marketing plans with clear KPIs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on marketing strategy and execution.
  • Shape brand identity and creative direction across all platforms.
  • Develop and maintain brand voice, ensuring consistent messaging across campaigns and channels.
  • Lead holistic GTM planning across paid, owned, and earned channels.
  • Ensure alignment across DTC, retail, and omnichannel campaigns.
  • Manage launch planning, stakeholder coordination, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Build scalable processes that improve efficiency and impact.
  • Oversee earned media, including product launches, events, and brand moments.
  • Build and nurture relationships with creators to drive authentic engagement.
  • Lead social media strategy to ensure a best-in-class brand presence, staying ahead of cultural and digital trends.
  • Drive growth strategy for DTC e-commerce.
  • Partner with digital agencies on paid media and ROAS targets.
  • Scale CRM, email, and SMS programs to strengthen retention.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing team.
  • Manage marketing budget with a focus on efficiency and ROI.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role within consumer, beauty, or lifestyle brands.
  • Proven ability to build and elevate strong consumer brands.
  • Expertise in brand strategy and storytelling.
  • Experience in integrated marketing and campaign development.
  • Strong creative direction and visual identity skills.
  • Knowledge of social, influencer, and content marketing.
  • Experience with PR, events, and brand activations.
  • Proficiency in paid media and DTC growth strategies.
  • Strong data-driven approach to marketing with a focus on measurement and KPIs.
  • Exceptional leadership skills; ability to inspire, manage, and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence.
  • Experience working closely with founders and executive teams, balancing storytelling with operational execution.
  • Solid understanding of marketing ROI, budgeting, and fiscal management.
