Director of Software Engineer - Embedded

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Leading a team of embedded software engineers.
• Responsible for departments Performance Evaluations, Promotions, and Compensation.
• Managing the department's budget, reporting any variances and implementing Return-to-Green plans.
• Managing multiple product lines with significant team size within budget and schedule.
• Directing all software leads on the product lines.
• Developing a software schedule and providing software inputs to an Integrated Master Schedule.
• Reporting software project status, including Earned Value input.
• Ensuring budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
• Providing technical direction to the team.
• Developing software architecture and presenting to customers for PDR, CDR, TIMs, etc.
• Reviewing and developing software estimates and inputs for proposals, including yearly calibration.
• Collaborating with other disciplines to meet project milestones.
• Developing Statements of Work (SOW) for software subcontractors.
• Leading Software Technical Working Groups (TWGs) to achieve process improvement goals.
• Mentoring junior engineers and leads.
• Participating with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
• Making final decisions on administrative or operational matters.
• Participating in the development of corporate and organizational policies.
• Managing planning, staffing, budgeting, expense priorities, and recommending process improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 15 years of embedded software development experience.
• At least 8 years of embedded software management experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance for work on Department of Defense projects.
• Experience leading teams of embedded software engineers.
• Ability to develop software schedules and provide inputs to master schedules.
• Experience in managing budgets and reporting variances.
• Strong technical direction and software architecture skills.
• Experience in developing SW estimates and proposals.
• Ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones.

Nice to Have

• Experience with software development for defense or aerospace projects.
• Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, and OFAC export control policies.
• Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
