About the Role

The District Sales Manager (DSM) role requires exceptional management of sales performance among Sales Consultants (SCs). This position is responsible for driving a performance culture, coaching and developing the talent of their sales consultants to achieve profitable planned case and gross profit (GP) growth. The DSM manages performance, leads customer engagement efforts, leverages sales tools and resources, and supports company initiatives within the district to ensure sales growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the performance and development of Sales Consultants (SCs) within the district.
  • Engages in one-on-one coaching and direction by conducting an average of 3-5 SC work-withs a week.
  • Effectively lead and facilitate Friday district meetings that educate, inspire and produce key behavior changes to drive sales.
  • Lead and direct Customer Engagement efforts by enabling the district SC to provide customers with expanded service channel options, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
  • Leverages the Sales Support resources and tools to maximize the consultative time of the SC.
  • Fully leverages CRM in the management of SC's sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement.
  • Successfully deliver Sysco brand results and manage conversion opportunities within the district.
  • Support and promote all national campaigns and promotions.
  • Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to develop sales consultants' consultative selling skills.
  • Utilize CMP and QPP processes to coach sales colleagues' performance.
  • Execute territory planning and management, prioritizing relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
  • Champion company initiatives and implement center-led strategies within the district.
  • Perform additional operational duties and manage customer relationships as needed.

Requirements

  • High School education required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., business administration) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • 2 or more years' experience successfully growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Superb organizational and project management skills, including executing multiple initiatives autonomously.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in using Sysco's proprietary CRM tool for planning and forecasting sales growth.
  • Mastery of consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop associates.
  • Experience in developing new business, penetrating existing accounts, and minimizing lost business.
  • Researching customer needs and developing product/service solutions.
  • Evaluating market trends and recommending products based on business needs.
  • Knowledge of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales.
  • Ability to answer customer questions about products, prices, and availability.
  • Providing product information and practical training to customers.
  • Managing deliveries, troubleshooting order issues, and participating in company functions and meetings.
  • Performing administrative duties such as preparing sales budgets, maintaining records, and processing credits.

Nice to Have

  • 5+ years' foodservice sales experience in the foodservice industry preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant industry experience.
