About the Role

The Environmental Data Analytics Discipline Leader at CDM Smith plays a crucial role in leveraging data analytics to enhance the firm's environmental services capabilities. This position involves working across multiple technical practice areas to support marketing and business development initiatives related to environmental data analytics. The leader collaborates with discipline leaders, subject matter experts, and the environmental data analytics group to gather ideas, assess needs, and develop effective data analytics solutions. They also manage intellectual property and research investments, grow a team of data analytics practitioners, and help the firm stay ahead in the competitive environmental sector by continuously improving data management and analysis capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations of available data analytics technologies and platforms to analyze environmental data across various applications such as water quality assessments, remedial investigations, remedial actions, and treatment system operations.
  • Assist with the technical sales, design, and delivery of data analytics solutions tailored for environmental applications.
  • Collaborate with local, national, and international technical teams in business technology and data analytics.
  • Work across multiple technical practice areas to leverage research and development activities, expanding the firm's environmental analytics capabilities.
  • Support marketing and business development initiatives related to environmental data analytics.
  • Engage with discipline leaders, SMEs, and analytics groups to gather ideas and assess needs for data analytics.
  • Coordinate efforts with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, designers, draftsmen, and technicians to design and implement analytics solutions.
  • Develop processes to evaluate ideas and initiatives within Business Technology for analytics tools and technologies.
  • Review current data analytics projects, identify intellectual property for protection, and prioritize R&D investments.
  • Work with and grow data analytics practitioners with the desire or aptitude to develop their skills.
  • Identify conferences, working groups, and activities to enhance technical visibility and promote capabilities to clients.
  • Track business opportunities and client relationships related to analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 7 years of related experience or equivalent additional directly related experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience in developing software solutions, dashboards, and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of environmental analytics and related technical fields.
  • Ability to work across multiple disciplines and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness or ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as required.

Nice to Have

  • Environmental expertise with a degree in civil, environmental, chemical engineering, science, or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license or registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist or professional scientist.
  • Master's degree in science or related discipline.
  • Extensive understanding of environmental analytics.
  • Experience in managing intellectual property.
  • Interest in teaching and developing educational opportunities for staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 7 years of related experience, or 10 years as an alternative.
