About the Role

The Executive Director, Enterprise Automation and Innovation at CVS Health is responsible for driving the strategy, vision, and execution of the Automation Center of Excellence (COE). This role involves leading a team of software engineers, business analysts, and automation experts, supporting automation initiatives across the enterprise, and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity. The position focuses on optimizing automation platforms, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring alignment with business goals to deliver significant productivity improvements and technological advancements within CVS Health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategy for enterprise automation within the Pharmacy Services organization and represent the Automation organization at a strategic level.
  • Drive end-to-end incubation processes to promote hyper-automation, from idea generation to prototype development and market launch.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and RPA, and assess their application to the business through feasibility studies and proof-of-concept development.
  • Oversee budget generation, including software licensing, bot chargeback models, and capital budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Manage procurement, finance, and project reporting in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, business analysts, scrum masters, architects, and automation experts, ensuring high performance and quality.
  • Ensure proper platform maintenance, security, governance, compliance, and scalability for RPA solutions.
  • Act as technical oversight for vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and supplier payments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, measure ROI, and report on the value delivered by automation efforts.
  • Establish policies and procedures to support compliance and drive internal audits.
  • Manage capacity planning and ensure staffing levels meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • Strong experience working with AI/ML, RPA, GenAI, or automation technologies.
  • Deep understanding of automation platforms, specifically UiPath and/or Automation Anywhere.
  • Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience managing teams of 25-50 technical personnel.
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring, performance management, and goal setting.
  • Ability to develop and execute multi-year strategic visions with measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with emerging AI technologies and their application in healthcare.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and challenging the status quo.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments with lean startup methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage operational and capital budgets, including procurement processes.
  • Excellent contract negotiation skills for managing vendors and labor.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying strategic and tactical objectives to diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Passion for automation, innovation, and customer-centric solutions.
  • Experience in measuring and reporting ROI of RPA solutions using data and analytics.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with process mapping/mining tools and low-code/no-code platforms.
  • Experience in Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), retail pharmacy, or healthcare industries.
  • Advanced degrees such as MBA or MS in a related field.
  • Certifications in automation platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience in high-performing technical teams.
