About the Role

The Executive Director, Enterprise Automation and Innovation at CVS Health is responsible for driving the strategy, vision, and execution of the Automation Center of Excellence (COE). This role involves leading a team of software engineers, business analysts, and automation experts to support enterprise-wide automation initiatives, including Robotics Process Automation (RPA), with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity. The position aims to enhance productivity, ensure platform compliance and performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategy for enterprise automation within the Pharmacy Services organization and represent the Automation organization at a strategic level.
  • Drive end-to-end incubation processes to promote hyper-automation, from idea generation to market launch.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics, and assess their application to the business.
  • Oversee budget generation, including software licensing, bot chargeback models, and capital budgets.
  • Manage procurement, finance, and project reporting in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Contribute as a Solutions Engineering and Automation Leadership Team member to optimize resource utilization.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and management of automation platforms to support current and future use cases.
  • Act as technical oversight for external vendor relationships, including negotiations and contract management.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor teams of software engineers, business analysts, and automation experts to ensure high performance and quality.
  • Oversee platform support for the RPA COE, including infrastructure, security, governance, and compliance.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and drive internal audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement, measure ROI, and report on the impact of automation initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong experience working with AI/ML, RPA, GenAI, or automation technologies.
  • Deep understanding of automation platforms such as UiPath and/or Automation Anywhere.
  • Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience managing teams of 25-50 technical personnel.
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring, performance management, and goal setting.
  • Ability to develop and execute multi-year strategic visions with measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with emerging AI technologies and their healthcare applications.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and challenging the status quo.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments with lean startup methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage operational and capital budgets, including procurement processes.
  • Excellent contract negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to convey strategic and tactical objectives effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in measuring and reporting ROI of RPA solutions using data and analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (MBA, MS).
  • Certifications in automation platforms are preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with process mapping/mining tools and low-code/no-code platforms.
  • Experience in Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), retail pharmacy, or healthcare.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred (MBA, MS).
  • Certifications in automation platforms preferred.
