Head of Enterprise Data Engineering

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine the organization's Data Strategy, supporting key business transformations and regulatory needs.
• Work with business and technology partners to enhance an enterprise data roadmap and create enterprise data products.
• Develop and implement a roadmap for a centralized data hub and analytical capabilities with standardized platforms and tools.
• Prepare and present assessments of the organization's data landscape to senior executives and align it with corporate objectives.
• Whiteboard solutions at macro and granular levels, debate technical solutions with senior data engineers, and guide the team based on high-level symptoms.
• Examine existing designs and propose modern, cloud-based, cost-effective solutions.
• Manage a multi-million-dollar budget and create a resourcing strategy, including hiring additional resources.
• Oversee all financial, compliance, human resources, risk operations for the department.
• Monitor industry trends and vendor applications, managing strategic relationships with vendors and professional organizations.
• Oversee systems development activities, including staff assignment and project completion within budget and standards.
• Ensure activities adhere to department and technology standards, including documentation and internal controls.
• Exercise authority over staffing, performance management, promotions, and salary recommendations.
• Understand and adhere to risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls, and implement internal controls to mitigate risk.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associate degree and 13 years' technology management or large program leadership experience.
• Deep expertise in Data Architecture, Data Modeling, OLAP, OLTP, Data Warehouse Architecture, Programming (Python, SQL/Hive, Scala), Change Data Capture, and Batch Processing in distributed environments.
• Experience working with large datasets (50+ TB) and Big Data technologies like Lakehouse, Spark, and query engines such as Presto or BigQuery.
• Proven experience designing enterprise data platforms, data integration frameworks, and building data pipelines.
• Experience with real-time data streaming tools like Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming, and Flink is preferred.
• Experience designing cloud-native data solutions and migrating workloads to cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Hands-on experience with orchestration/CI tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins.
• Deep understanding of data exploration, business intelligence, and visual analytics, with hands-on experience with Tableau and Power BI.
• Experience with data science, machine learning, AI, NLP, and related technologies, both on-premises and in the cloud.
• At least 5 years of people management experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience standing up Centers of Excellence (COE) for data science and AI technologies.
• BS / MS degree in a STEM major.
• 15+ years of IT experience.

Qualifications

• At least an Associate degree.
• 13+ years of experience in technology management or large program leadership.
