About the Role

The Indiana Statesman Advertising Manager oversees the student advertising sales and design staffs, focusing on retaining existing accounts through proper servicing and developing new accounts via effective selling, graphic design, and marketing methods. The role involves managing sales efforts, developing ad campaigns, and ensuring the quality and timely publication of advertisements, all within a student employment context at Indiana State University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the sales staff to reach advertising revenue goals for the Indiana Statesman/indianastatesman.com.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise the student ad sales and ad production staffs.
  • Meet with each sales person to review sales efforts and determine strategies for increasing sales volume.
  • Conduct a weekly full-staff meeting.
  • Develop ideas and plans for ad campaigns, special promotions, sales presentations, and "spec" ads to increase advertising volume.
  • Make final decisions on the publication of all advertisements.
  • Consult with the Editor in Chief to dummy ads for each issue of the Statesman.
  • Ensure ads scheduled to run have been finished, proofed, and corrected, and are ready to run.
  • Handle questions and complaints related to advertisements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Able to adapt to change, analyze and present data, learn and retain information, multitask, and plan and organize projects.
  • Able to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail and demonstration of high ethical standards, integrity, professionalism, politeness, and courteousness.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, planning, team-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to work extended hours during events and peak seasons when required.
  • Able to work well with others and effectively interact with a diverse community.

Nice to Have

  • Prefer Marketing, Public Relations, and/or Business fields of study.
  • Prefer some sales experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Relevant education and experience include a high school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred relevant education in Marketing, Public Relations, and/or Business fields of study.
  • Preferred some sales experience.
