About the Role

An Inside Sales Account Manager (ISM) is responsible for learning how to manage and grow customer accounts primarily through phone and email communication, in preparation to becoming an outside sales Account Manager. The role focuses on developing skills in sales, customer relationship management, and product knowledge. This position provides a path for advancement with potential relocation across regional and national markets, offering comprehensive training in transportation operations and industry insights. Travel is required for training at the company's headquarters in Wilmington, Ohio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to effectively communicate with customers, understand their needs and present tailored solutions.
  • Manage existing accounts, identify growth opportunities and build strong client relationships.
  • Identify and qualify potential new business opportunities.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the company's products and services.
  • Participate in the full sales cycle - from initial contact to close.
  • Learn to use and maintain accurate records in the company's customer relationship management system.
  • Work with other departments such as operations, rates and traffic, and customer service.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance sales skills and product knowledge.
  • Track key performance indicators, analyze sales data, and prepare reports on account performance.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of transportation operations and infrastructure to support overall business functions.
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and maintain high satisfaction levels.
  • Gain insight into invoicing, payment tracking, and collection procedures.
  • Learn about freight lanes, cost analysis, and pricing strategies.
  • Work with logistics teams to understand freight scheduling, dock procedures, and workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on building customer rapport.
  • Basic understanding of sales principles and processes.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service and resolve issues professionally.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and stay organized.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt to change, and take proactive steps.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and support decision-making.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant experience may also be considered.
