The role involves supporting profitability improvement and growth initiatives for a specific line of business, understanding insurance rates, rules, and forms, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance and effective product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Development Specialists to support ISO, Selective proprietary, and AAIS rates, rules, and forms, ensuring a consistent business process and tools for product development.
  • Consult with managers and recommend actions regarding circulars, bulletins, and system ramifications, including requirements needed to adopt circulars.
  • Develop proficient knowledge of products and coverages by analyzing forms, applications, guidelines, and underwriting requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team to understand coverage applications by analyzing claims activity and underwriting practices.
  • Analyze and interpret underwriting information, highlight trends, and make recommendations to improve product offerings and underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify product trends or needs through market and competitive research, defining opportunities, and presenting product and pricing recommendations.
  • Monitor and report on profit and loss for the assigned line of business, providing analysis for rate reviews and supporting profitability initiatives.
  • Support governance of existing rates, rules, and forms, including oversight of delays or non-adoption of ISO and AAIS circulars.
  • Manage all corporate governance and compliance issues related to the line of business, including handling underwriting referrals and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in analyzing manuscript endorsements for acceptability, develop alternative solutions, and ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance with state regulations.
  • Participate in supporting predictive model efforts and assist with creation and delivery of training materials for agents and regional personnel.
  • Participate in Large Loss Review and Quality Assurance Reviews as necessary.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to agents, regional personnel, Product Development staff, SBUs, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possesses underwriting skills and broad knowledge of company products and underwriting guidelines.
  • Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage workflows to meet and exceed production and service expectations.
  • Ability to develop relationships with internal and external customers and peers.
  • Ability to adapt to change and support strategic company initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using desktop tools, including automated underwriting and email systems.
  • Technical knowledge of ISO and AAIS systems.
  • Ability to research and analyze coverage, understand pricing methodology, rating structure, and underwriting for exposures.
  • College degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Underwriting, Claims, Loss Control, or related insurance fields.
  • Preferred experience includes 2+ years in specific business segments, Risk Management, Reinsurance, Field Underwriting, or agency experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with risk management or reinsurance.
  • Experience in field underwriting or agency roles.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant insurance-related experience.
