About the Role

The Manager, SEO at CarGurus is a strategic and analytical role focused on driving organic traffic growth through innovative SEO initiatives, particularly in AI search and social engines. The position involves leading cross-functional teams to develop and execute SEO strategies that position CarGurus as a top organic result in automotive search across the US, Canada, and the UK, fostering a culture of kindness, collaboration, and innovation within a flexible work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Define opportunities, strategic priorities, and roadmaps to drive organic AI/social growth based on emerging trends and current performance, including informing the Editorial Content team's roadmap.
Manage execution and optimization of performance-oriented campaigns across search AI (e.g., Google AI), emerging AI engines (e.g., Chat-GPT), and social platforms (e.g., Reddit, X, Meta, YouTube) to increase organic visits and conversions.
Continuously optimize landing page conversion rates at various stages of the customer journey, from content/research to conversion-oriented pages.
Analyze marketing data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of SEO efforts, including A/B testing, report building, and communicating results to stakeholders.
Monitor SEO/AI organic performance across all markets, report trends and impact to the Executive Team, and lead organic traffic forecasting efforts.
Define and manage budget needs and engineering resource allocation.
Lead internal communications and collaborate with Engineering, Product, Editorial Content, Analytics, and other Marketing teams to align efforts with business goals.
Stay updated on industry trends, competitor strategies, and customer preferences to inform SEO initiatives and strategy.

Requirements

7+ years of professional experience in SEO, preferably in-house and enterprise-level, with a strong understanding of SEO principles and recent AI trends.
Strong strategic thinking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities and set priorities.
Excellent communication skills to synthesize and convey insights, results, and recommendations to partners and senior leadership.
Proficiency in data analytics tools such as Looker and Google Analytics, and SEO tracking platforms.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing marketing trends and technologies.
Experience leading teams, particularly content and/or engineering teams.
Attention to detail in tracking data and executing roadmap elements accurately.

Nice to Have

Experience with AI search engines like Chat-GPT.
Experience in automotive or related industries.
Familiarity with cross-functional collaboration in a tech-driven environment.
