Job Description

About the Role

The Market Analyst, Natural Gas provides commodity market fundamentals, short/medium term supply/demand analysis, and trader support for the Global supply and trading functions. The analyst will develop product flow and arbitrage models and support ad hoc requests from Commercial Senior Management, Commercial groups, Chief Economist, and Investor Relations. This role is part of Phillips 66's efforts to leverage market knowledge and assets to create value within the company's risk parameters, supporting the company's broader mission to improve lives and meet the world's energy needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of commodity trading, including key supply/demand regions, logistics assets, storage facilities, and financial instruments used to hedge positions in these markets.
  • Perform market analysis to develop and support business objectives, including developing and maintaining supply and demand models, working closely with trading to understand market trends, downtime, seasonal cycles, and macroeconomic variables.
  • Communicate market fundamentals and trading strategies to Commercial leadership.
  • Understand key trading positions and support the analytical team's work.
  • Use fundamental and technical data to develop forward market view predictive models.
  • Work with third-party consultants and brokers to understand and evaluate their views on commodity markets and incorporate these into Phillips 66's market view.
  • Communicate external study results and market views to assist traders with trading tactics.
  • Understand and communicate geopolitical and regulatory events/factors impacting price movements.
  • Lead information gathering processes and develop presentation packages as needed.
  • Share knowledge and improve peer group understanding of niche markets.
  • Lead ad-hoc projects and analysis around market fundamentals, including infrastructure changes, to support trade ideas.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • 3 or more years of commercial/trading or related experience in the energy industry.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, computer science or related field.
  • 3 or more years of experience in Natural Gas markets.
  • 3 or more years of experience with market analysis.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a trading environment.
  • Experience with business development projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory programs.
  • Knowledge of Commercial trading businesses and global commodity trading.
  • Refining/petrochemical knowledge.
  • High degree of collaborative skills and ability to develop, lead, and participate on cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with statistical modeling software, database software, and economic modeling.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Tableau, Python, and/or R.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to gain consensus and build trust across multiple functional areas.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly evolving requirements.
  • Ability to synthesize data into useful information and articulate it clearly.
  • Proactive problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Strong ethics, personal drive, and dedication.
