About the Role

The Multimedia Content & Communications Strategist, Senior Manager (MCCSSM) at United Way of the National Capital Area plays a pivotal role in bringing the organization's work to life through dynamic storytelling, compelling content, and strategic communication across various channels. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, this role involves developing and executing multimedia storytelling strategies to engage donors, volunteers, community partners, and the wider community, with a focus on fostering equity and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement narrative strategies by crafting compelling stories that engage audiences, reinforce organizational values, and guide strategic direction.
  • Lead the development and management of a cross-functional editorial calendar to ensure cross-team alignment and narrative consistency.
  • Provide vision and expertise in multimedia storytelling to develop communication assets including podcasts, newsletters, videos, and photography.
  • Field-produce and direct interviews, documentaries, and other multimedia content from concept through execution.
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, documenting events, interviews, or site visits.
  • Edit videos using Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Premiere Pro).
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy to enhance visibility, reputation, and brand storytelling.
  • Write, edit, and curate high-impact content such as donor stories, web articles, newsletters, reports, social media content, and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager to optimize and produce stories for the website and digital platforms.
  • Monitor content engagement using analytics tools and report on performance to refine strategies.
  • Leverage stakeholder insights to personalize content and work cross-functionally with PR, media, and other teams to ensure cohesive messaging.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (preferred).
  • High School Diploma or GED with equivalent multimedia and communications work experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional video and editorial experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in content strategy, writing, or editorial development, preferably within nonprofit, research, philanthropy, or corporate environments.
  • At least three (3) years of background in storytelling, content marketing, and digital platforms.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Experience capturing and editing high-quality photos and videos, including proficiency with DSLR or mirrorless cameras and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Knowledge of storytelling, marketing copywriting trends, and multimedia best practices.
  • Project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate technical source material into accessible, engaging human stories.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with social media content creation and digital marketing performance monitoring.
  • Knowledge of data analytics tools for content performance measurement.
  • Experience in community engagement and reputation management.
  • Familiarity with grant opportunities related to multimedia content.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields (preferred).
  • High School Diploma or GED with related experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant multimedia and editorial experience.
