About the Role

The Portfolio Analytics Lead in Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development Informatics (ECDi) Data Intelligence (DI) team is a strategic thought partner to key stakeholders and an integral contributor to the company's clinical operational planning efforts. The role involves contributing to an integrated Clinical Operations Plan (iCOP) used to guide end-to-end, cross-business unit, Clinical Operations planning and strategies at the disease area (DA) level. It provides strategic operational insights through forecasting, landscape analysis, advanced data analysis, and project management to support Clinical Operations and management for effective data-driven decision making. The role also involves leading global workgroups, defining best practices, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize clinical trial processes and portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-business unit Clinical Operations DA level workgroups, Clinical Operations leaders, project/study teams, and lifecycle teams to understand business needs and immediate scope of work.
  • Deliver integrated insights and analytics, trade-off analyses, and risk assessments to optimize patient recruitment strategies, country footprint, and clinical site selection at the DA level.
  • Proactively partner with stakeholders to assess portfolio health and identify opportunities to expedite evidence generation and accelerate study and product delivery.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art methodologies including predictive modeling, ML/AI, and scalable prototypes to analyze complex data and interpret results for portfolio-level decisions.
  • Identify, interpret, and communicate the effects of trial design elements, country and site selection, competitor activities, and engagement tactics on recruitment and retention forecasts.
  • Lead relevant data science and analytics projects, manage product development cycles, and ensure project success.
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional communities, collaborate with subject matter experts, and contribute to globally aligned strategies and tools.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and engage with managers and peers for coaching and advocacy.
  • Lead and coach junior team members.
  • Consult with IT and data governance teams to clarify data needs and oversee data acquisition, aggregation, and curation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Public Health, or a related field; Graduate-level degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience with Bachelor's; 5+ years with Master's; 3+ years with PhD, in areas such as Patient Insights, Forecasting, Data Analytics, or Data Science in Clinical Operations within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Strong experience working with and engaging Clinical Operations stakeholders as a strategic thought partner.
  • Experience leading or working with SMEs from cross-business units to analyze and solve business problems using data-driven methods.
  • Experience with scripting and analytical programming (e.g., Python, R, SQL, JavaScript) preferred.
  • Knowledge of snowflake/cloud architecture and data modeling concepts preferred.
  • Experience with various forecasting methods and techniques strongly preferred.
  • Portfolio management experience and ability to lead in a matrix environment using influence without authority.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a consultative mindset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with predictive modeling, ML/AI, and scalable prototypes.
  • Knowledge of cloud data platforms and data modeling concepts.
  • Experience with various forecasting methods and techniques.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields; graduate degrees preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with Bachelor's, 5+ with Master's, 3+ with PhD.

  • Expected salary range of $148,100 - $275,000 based on experience and location.
