The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is Dolby's research division, focusing on delivering insights and innovating technological solutions across areas such as AI/ML, image processing, audio engineering, computer vision, and more. Our researchers have expertise in computer science and electrical engineering, working on technologies that impact audio, video, AR/VR, gaming, and content creation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Invent and create the next generation of AI-driven image and video processing technologies, focusing on image/video capture solutions with new sensors, camera signal processing, and 3D spatial captures.
  • Set directions, identify projects, and build the next wave of image technologies in collaboration with Dolby's global research teams to support licensing and cloud businesses.
  • Apply traditional image processing and AI algorithms to research in image delivery, analysis, and content creation technologies.
  • Guide and mentor a team of researchers in image processing, computer graphics, and content enhancement, developing junior staff into independent researchers.
  • Contribute to technology strategy and direction setting by partnering with global research teams and defining projects for AI-based technologies.
  • Collaborate with Dolby's Business Groups to translate research into products, working closely with product managers, program managers, and engineering teams worldwide.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. plus 8 years of corporate research experience in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Profound understanding and research record in image sensors, lenses, camera signal processing, spectral processing, 3D modeling, geometry, and calibration.
  • Expertise in AI with a thorough understanding of state-of-the-art AI technologies, network architectures, deployment modes, data augmentation, and performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of diffusion, autoregressive, or other generative models, self-supervised learning, contrastive learning, auto-encoders, and applications such as source separation, text-to-speech, music synthesis, image segmentation, captioning, question answering, and language models.
  • Experience with game environments, graphical processing, consumer products, SoC architectures, embedded software, GPU/CPU implementations, and ML/AI algorithm validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to create novel, patentable image processing, enhancement, and rendering technologies.
  • Strong publication record in major image/video/AI conferences and journals (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience in managing, guiding, and mentoring researchers, with a team-oriented work ethic.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills in English.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of NLP and/or multimodal architectures.
  • Understanding of source separation, text-to-speech, music synthesis, image captioning, question answering, and language models.
  • Experience with graphical processing, consumer products, SoC architectures, embedded software, and algorithm implementation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Ph.D. with extensive research and industry experience.
