About the Role

The Product Specialist at Parr Lumber Company is responsible for maintaining inventory levels for specific product categories, focusing on specialty products, and ensuring the timely flow of products to meet customer needs. The position is based in Hillsboro, Oregon, and involves working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain an appropriate level of inventory for assigned suppliers and/or categories for the Company.
  • Review, maintain, and distribute system generated purchase orders for assigned suppliers and/or categories.
  • Audit purchase orders to ensure correct pricing and respond timely to out of stock and backorder notifications.
  • Analyze product outs daily and proactively manage product needs.
  • Audit receiving status of purchases, confirm backorders, and take action to limit product shortfalls.
  • Audit empty peg reports and take appropriate action.
  • Utilize the system to determine product needs and update schedules in Outlook weekly.
  • Ensure products are accurately assigned in POS system, including buyer number, vendor number, and buy cycle.
  • Coordinate supplier-sponsored events, promotions, and tours monthly.
  • Evaluate product movement to identify slow-moving or dead stock and develop plans to limit such stock.
  • Analyze product turnover and health to maximize category revenue goals.
  • Seek new product opportunities and maintain relationships with suppliers for industry insights.
  • Assist in product line reviews, supplier negotiations, and coordinate stock buy backs for slow-moving or end-of-run merchandise.
  • Monitor and maintain acceptable turn rates in assigned categories.
  • Complete and submit new item setup sheets and participate in location promotional events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • At least 3 years' experience in the building industry.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English.
  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment and sit/stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle with a clean driving record.
  • Availability for extended travel, including local and overnight trips.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of product categories, inventory management, and supplier relations.

  • Experience with system software purchasing programs.
  • Knowledge of product application and current market conditions.
  • Ability to convert measurements and calculate gross margins and profits.
  • Experience in vendor negotiations and product line reviews.
