About the Role

Guidehouse is seeking a Rhapsody integration engineer to join our cross-cutting functional team supporting public health clients within our Health Interoperability practice. The role involves expertise in public health informatics and data integration platforms, including Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, InterSystems, and Palantir. The position requires a self-starter with a collaborative mindset, ownership over their work, and enthusiasm to support consulting solutions for public health data exchange and modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain integration solutions using Rhapsody Integration Engine and other platforms such as Mirth Connect.
  • Collaborate with public health departments and stakeholders to understand integration requirements and ensure seamless data exchange of HL7 messages, especially for electronic case reports (eCR).
  • Develop and implement HL7 message structures and workflows (v2, v3, FHIR) to support public health data modernization.
  • Use HL7 test messages to validate and troubleshoot integration processes, ensuring data integrity and system reliability.
  • Provide technical support and training to public health end-users and internal team members.
  • Document integration processes, configurations, and changes according to organizational standards.
  • Stay updated with trends and best practices in HL7 messaging and public health informatics.
  • Support public health surveillance and interoperability expertise across multiple client engagements, including developing presentations, briefings, and reports.
  • Identify client needs and develop solutions accordingly.
  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, researching and analyzing technical and industry matters, and communicating effectively with various audiences.
  • Scope and staff projects to meet client requirements and develop work plans reflecting project scope and expectations.
  • Provide management oversight and development of work products from inception to completion.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with Rhapsody Integration Engine and other platform solutions for developing and managing integration solutions.
  • Experience working with HL7 standards and public health code/value sets, including HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3, and FHIR.
  • Experience with SQL and noSQL databases.
  • Strong experience with public health data exchange, data standards, and interoperability.
  • Proven track record of using integration engines for health data mapping, routing, translation, and transformation in public health surveillance systems.
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, MLLP, and web services (SOAP/REST).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and troubleshooting abilities for complex integration issues.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective technical project management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency in other health data integration platforms such as Mirth Connect, InterSystems, Palantir.
  • Certification in HL7 standards or Rhapsody Integration Engine.
  • Experience with electronic case reporting (eCR) using CDA/c-CDA and FHIR formats.
  • Experience with electronic disease surveillance systems or integrated surveillance systems (e.g., NEDSS, Maven, Epi-Trax).
  • Experience integrating disparate public health data sources into data warehouses, lakes, or lake-houses.
  • Understanding of FHIR standards, APIs, and healthcare data exchange.
  • Previous experience in a public health or healthcare IT environment.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML applications in public health, including LLMs.
  • Experience managing projects to scope, timeline, and budget across multiple teams.
  • Experience with code repositories and continuous integration tools like Git and Jenkins.
