About the Role

The Public Relations Coordinator at the City of Lubbock is responsible for curating, producing, and distributing marketing efforts that communicate the brand and story of the Health Department. The role involves strategizing, implementing, and evaluating marketing initiatives across various platforms, collaborating with team members inside and outside of the department to enhance public communication and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create digital and physical marketing materials from conception to finished product including layout, design, and writing content.
  • Coordinate promotional materials for community center and large community events across online and in-person sources.
  • Write and edit news releases, email marketing campaigns, social media content, website content, and a variety of other written communications.
  • Write, edit, and design content for the City of Lubbock's social media sites and monitor city department social media sites.
  • Analyze data from a variety of communication tools, including social media sites and the city website.
  • Shoot still photographs and/or videos of events and individuals or groups, either in studio or on location.
  • Serve as public information contact for the media when the department manager is unavailable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mass communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field with an additional one year or more experience in public affairs, media relations, marketing, social media, and graphic design.
  • Must be available to rotate on-call.
  • Able to come in early or stay late if needed.
  • Valid current driver's license.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, social media, electronic and print newsletters, photography, videography, broadcast, and online media.
  • Utilize computer and software programs, specifically Canva.
  • Strong command of social media platforms.
  • Strong oral, written, and proofreading skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify communication needs and develop strategies, methods, and tools.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Work under deadlines and stressful situations with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Communicate clearly to present information and convey issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work effectively both in solo and team environments.
  • Comfort taking pictures and videos of people at city events, classes, and programs.
  • Proactive and diligent approach in a working environment.
  • Manage and analyze data.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and bend during the shift.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees.
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mass communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Additional one year or more experience in public affairs, media relations, marketing, social media, and graphic design.
