About the Role

The NFL's Next Gen Stats team is seeking an experienced research analyst to help develop storylines using Next Gen Stats data to support various platforms across the NFL, including NFL Network, NFL.com, NFL+, and integrating data into live game telecasts with broadcast partners. The role involves working closely with multiple teams within the organization, including Product, Engineering, and production groups. The ideal candidate will have a background in research, statistics, and/or analytics, along with extensive football knowledge and a passion for the game. This is a seasonal, in-person position requiring onsite presence at an NFL office or stadium, with a focus on collaboration and maintaining the NFL's work culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing storylines based on own research within large data sets
  • Deliver weekly game preview packets to broadcasters breaking down matchups and highlighting key team tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Collaborate with NFL owned and operated and third-party broadcast partners to provide engaging Next Gen Stats narratives and supporting data
  • Responsible for developing ideas for various forms of content for studio production shows and ensuring their execution as graphics, segments, and pieces
  • Develop original storylines and datapoints that provide statistical analysis of events, news stories, and topical issues
  • Maintain and improve Next Gen Stats research dashboards
  • Recognize and anticipate league and team trends, applying appropriate statistics to create content for platforms including social media
  • Initiate development in football analytics using Next Gen Stats
  • Ensure accuracy of data before distribution

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Extensive football knowledge
  • Comfortable working with large data sets
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and programs
  • Must be able to communicate information accurately
  • Strong grammar skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and react to breaking news

Nice to Have

  • Experience building analysis using football statistics
  • Proficient writing complex queries using SQL
  • Proficient in Python and/or R for statistical analysis
  • Experience using BI tools such as Tableau or Quicksight
  • Coding skills (not mandatory but encouraged)

Qualifications

  • Educational background with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field
