About the Role

The Senior Director, Solutions Marketing leads the product marketing team for the Academic Leader and Funder segment within Elsevier's portfolio. This highly experienced leader is responsible for developing and executing go-to-market strategies, overseeing global marketing efforts, managing a team, and ensuring impactful messaging and positioning to drive new business and retention. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, maintaining market awareness, and fostering an inclusive, empowering team culture. Reporting to the VP of Audience Marketing, this position plays a critical role in shaping the company's market presence in SaaS, data, and analytics products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing go-to-market strategies for core product releases and ensuring successful execution.
  • Overseeing the global go-to-market approach for individual solutions in alignment with company goals and key stakeholders such as sales, product development, and the executive team.
  • Managing the operations of the Product Marketing team, including direct reports, budget planning, and reporting.
  • Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of product marketing initiatives.
  • Conducting ongoing market research to identify trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape.
  • Owning cross-functional customer insights and competitive intelligence programs to inform marketing strategies.
  • Monitoring and analyzing market trends to guide product development and marketing efforts.
  • Collaborating with portfolio marketing and product management to develop positioning and value propositions for competitive differentiation.
  • Delivering solution-level messaging and content to support marketing and sales funnels.
  • Creating and maintaining sales content such as pitch decks and fact sheets in collaboration with sales leaders.
  • Building a product marketing organization valued as a strategic partner within the company.
  • Serving as a mentor and exemplar to the Product Marketing team, promoting career development.

Requirements

  • 10 years of product marketing experience in a SaaS environment with at least 5 years managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate marketing strategies and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and compellingly.
  • Proven leadership skills as a mentor and coach to a team of product marketers.
  • Effective problem-solving skills resulting in actionable solutions.
  • Strategic thinking to develop long-term marketing plans considering market trends and growth opportunities.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with sales, product management, and customer support teams.
  • Ability to influence and gain buy-in from stakeholders across the organization.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior leadership, including the Executive Leadership Team.
