This role involves leading design for Slack's core messaging experiences, including Activity, DMs, Search, and Notifications, shaping how millions of users communicate and collaborate daily. The Senior Director of Design will lead design strategy and execution for the Messaging team, focusing on conversations and channels, with an emphasis on improving focus and noise control, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, and Customer Experience teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead design vision and strategy for core Slack experiences including Activity, DMs, and Notifications
Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to drive execution of major initiatives like AI integration and information architecture updates
Foster a culture of design excellence and craft across the team
Ensure high quality implementation of design systems and accessibility standards
Mentor and develop design talent across the organization
Drive improvements to core messaging experiences used by millions daily
Lead design vision for the next generation of Slack with AI-powered features
Shape the future of workplace communication and collaboration tools
Build and scale a world-class design team

Requirements

Deep expertise in product design for complex enterprise software for both desktop and mobile
Track record of leading and scaling design teams
Experience partnering with Engineering and Product leaders
Strong understanding of design systems and accessibility
Proven ability to drive design strategy that balances user needs with business goals
Design and prototyping excellence
Customer-centric mindset focused on making work lives simpler and more productive
Ability to foster an environment where designers bring their best ideas forward
Commitment to building inclusive, diverse teams
Excellence in cross-functional collaboration and communication
Passion for mentoring and developing design talent
Comfortable being hands-on and leading by example

Nice to Have
