Job Description

About the Role

Position Summary... Our mission at Sam's Club is to bring our members the merchandise they want most—combining quality, desirability, and unmatched value. As the Senior Director of Experience Strategy for Merchandising, Replenishment, and Product Development, you will spearhead the strategic transformation of how home office associates engage with the tools, processes, and workflows that power Sam's Club's merchandising and replenishment operations. You will lead a team of Directors who guide cross-functional Experience Squads (business, product, engineering, and experience strategy), ensuring their work is aligned to a unified, future-focused vision. Your success will be defined by your ability to: - Embed a transformational vision at the intersection of business strategy and associate needs. - Translate high-stakes design thinking into actionable business strategy. - Align multiple squads around a cohesive, long-term experience direction. - Deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, adoption, and associate satisfaction. This role is a critical driver of Sam's Club's membership-driven advantage, ensuring that the operational backbone of merchandising evolves to meet the scale, speed, and innovation our members expect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver experience strategy by establishing a replenishment and merchandising experience for home office associates aligned with broader member and associate goals within the first 90 days.
  • Demonstrate measurable improvements in associate efficiency, tool adoption, or satisfaction within 12 months.
  • Manage and coach a team of Directors of Experience Strategy, ensuring each squad is aligned to the overall strategy.
  • Ensure all squads deliver validated solutions that address high-priority goals within the first year.
  • Facilitate strategic workshops with senior leaders and ensure squads apply design thinking rituals in their initiatives.
  • Improve replenishment accuracy, product placement, or decision-making speed through innovative solutions tested with associates by year one.
  • Oversee research priorities across squads and translate findings into actionable strategies.
  • Implement a research-to-roadmap process within 6 months to ground squad initiatives in associate and business insights.
  • Partner with Walmart enterprise UX, Product, and Engineering teams to integrate Sam's Club needs into enterprise platforms.
  • Oversee execution of squad portfolio projects, ensuring on-time delivery, in-club pilots, and scaled rollouts.
  • Deliver scaled initiatives that show documented business impact and strong associate adoption by the end of year one.

Requirements

  • Ability to lead through Directors, set long-term vision, and align multiple squads toward measurable outcomes.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale initiatives tied to efficiency, adoption, or satisfaction metrics.
  • Skilled at applying and scaling design thinking, from facilitating workshops with executives to embedding rituals in squads.
  • Deep empathy for associates, with ability to transform insights into strategies that improve daily workflows.
  • Proven ability to translate data and user research into long-term strategies and roadmaps.
  • Ability to partner with executives across business, merchandising, operations, and technology to drive alignment and adoption.
  • Experience managing Directors or senior managers, building strong leaders who can run squads effectively.
  • Excellent storytelling and influence skills to communicate strategies clearly and inspire both associates and executives.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area with 7 years' experience, or 9 years' experience in related fields.
  • At least 4 years of supervisory experience.

Nice to Have

  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and assistive technologies.
  • Experience applying AI/agentive technologies to decision-making and process optimization.

Qualifications
