About the Role

The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law has an exciting opportunity for an energetic self-starter to join the marketing and communications team as a Senior Marketing Specialist. The position supports the Marketing and Communications Department, which is part of the Office of External Relations at Maryland Carey Law. The department builds recognition of the school's program of legal education, research, practice, and public service through an integrated communication and marketing plan. Staff develop and implement initiatives for internal and external audiences including advertising, marketing, website, social media, publications, media relations, videography and photography, crisis communications, email marketing, development and alumni communications, and internal communications. The role reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications and involves supporting strategic marketing efforts, content creation, branding, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the crafting of and work to implement the vision and strategy for Maryland Carey Law's marketing efforts.
  • Facilitate operations within the marketing function to support project specifications.
  • Identify needs and develop communication strategies with marketing specifications including defined outcomes and deadlines.
  • Consult with and provide expertise and guidance to faculty and staff within academic programs and other departments within the Law School.
  • Collaborate with the school's programs, centers, faculty, and departments (including admissions, career development, alumni and development, and student services), and other initiatives on the development of marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, email marketing campaigns, and social media presence.
  • Create, develop, and control content for the law school's website, including developing web pages in the content management system and writing/editing content for the homepage and interior pages.
  • Manage the Law School's brand and communicate branding needs to internal and external audiences.
  • Support the strategic planning for Maryland Carey Law by working collaboratively with video/photo, social media, academic, internal stakeholders, and external relations leadership teams to develop comprehensive communications and marketing approaches.
  • May work and manage relationships with outside vendors.
  • Support the development of benchmark criteria to track and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies.
  • Develop systems to collect and maintain knowledge concerning the legal educational and professional markets and analyze market trends.
  • Be cross-trained in marketing and communications platforms such as social media and email marketing programs to provide coverage and ongoing communications when team members are absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; degree in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public, or client relations.
  • Knowledge of applicable requirements, regulations, and laws.
  • Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
  • Knowledge working with social media, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, customer relationship management platforms, and graphic design programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of digital marketing best practices for higher education/student recruitment and success in securing leads that translate to applicants/enrollees.
  • Demonstrated understanding of branding best practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with social media on behalf of an organization.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms, website content management systems, CRM platforms, and graphic design programs.
  • Experience working in higher education and/or the legal community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Three years of relevant experience in marketing, public relations, or communications.
