About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply design thinking within complex education ecosystems to deeply understand user needs, reframe complex problems, and create intuitive, scalable, and human-centered product solutions.
  • Conduct and synthesize generative, formative, and evaluative research using methods such as user interviews, usability testing, and surveys.
  • Manage and prioritize research plans in ambiguous and fast-changing environments, aligning insights with stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions to align teams and uncover opportunities.
  • Interpret quantitative data insights in collaboration with Data Scientists to inform design decisions.
  • Influence prioritization and roadmapping efforts by connecting user needs with business goals and mission.
  • Champion human-centered and inclusive design principles.
  • Use strategic storytelling to communicate vision, value, and direction.
  • Translate concepts into designs, creating artifacts such as user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.
  • Experiment with generative AI tools to support ideation and prototyping.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, researchers, and leadership throughout the design and development process.
  • Participate in standups, sprint planning, design reviews, critiques, and QA cycles.
  • Translate research insights and design decisions into clear specifications for implementation.
  • Present ideas, research findings, and designs to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Mentor junior designers or peers and contribute to internal design education efforts.
  • Continuously learn and share emerging tools, trends, and provocations.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of work included in the application.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., interaction design, HCI, industrial design, information science, social sciences, computer science, graphic design) and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-7 years of experience in product or service design.
  • Strong skills in creating and communicating design artifacts such as user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.
  • Proficiency in design thinking and human-centered methodologies.
  • Experience applying generative and evaluative research methods, including facilitation skills for workshops and co-creation sessions.
  • Understanding of design systems, responsive design, and accessibility standards for web and native mobile platforms.
  • Ability to discuss technical constraints and collaborate with engineers to ensure design feasibility.
  • Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and user-centered design, with skills in writing and testing content using plain language principles.
  • Curiosity and adaptability, with a willingness to experiment with emerging tools including generative AI.
  • Ability to travel 3-5 times a year for work-related activities.

  • Experience with content strategy and accessibility standards.
  • Experience with AI experimentation and tools.

Qualifications

  • Formal education or equivalent experience in relevant fields such as interaction design, HCI, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in product or service design with a focus on complex applications.
  • Proficiency in design tools like Figma.
