About the Role

The SGS Project Manager Engineer I-Sr position involves managing projects related to engineering, construction, and planning within the company. The role requires coordinating with management, stakeholders, and external organizations to ensure projects meet company goals, are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with permits and regulations. The position offers opportunities to lead projects of varying sizes and complexity, develop leadership skills, and contribute to the company's success in project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Management to ensure that proposed projects meet SGS goals and lead meetings concerning assigned projects.
  • Provide feedback to Planners regarding feasibility, cost, scheduling, and permitting of proposed projects.
  • Coordinate project-specific inputs for obtaining federal, state, and local permits and approvals.
  • Coordinate preliminary engineering for projects in the 2-6 year budget and ensure documentation is reviewed and approved.
  • Coordinate detailed engineering for projects in the 1-2 year budget and ensure construction engineering documentation is reviewed and approved.
  • Monitor, schedule, and approve procurement of materials required for project construction according to specifications.
  • Participate in review and approval of contracts for outside contractor services for engineering and construction.
  • Obtain and refine budgetary estimates for projects and ensure departmental commitments to labor allocations.
  • Work with accounting to review financial reports and manage projects within budget limitations.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, manage resources, and coordinate activities during design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Use project management software for tracking and reporting project resources and status.
  • Develop and monitor work progress, oversee scheduling and coordination of system outages and project commissioning activities.
  • Close out projects by obtaining as-built drawings, addressing schedule and budget variances, and evaluating services.
  • Report to the Engineering Electrical and Controls Supervisor and perform other assignments as requested.
  • Provide services to affiliates of the company in accordance with policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Will have primary responsibility for small to medium projects as the project manager, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Will work with SGS supervisors and staff to coordinate activities and resources.
  • Must meet with other companies, organizations, and stakeholders regarding project management.
  • Preferred qualification of a four-year degree in engineering, planning, project, construction, or business management; or equivalent professional experience.
  • A self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, monitor budgets, schedules, and ensure timely completion.
  • Developed leadership skills and ability to lead meetings and communicate effectively.
  • Preferred Qualifications: P.M.P certification.
  • For higher levels: a four-year degree with a preference to Engineering, or project, construction, or business management, or MBA; or six or more years of professional experience as an Engineer or Construction Supervisor; or two or more years of professional experience as a Project Manager I.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong understanding of project management processes and reporting metrics.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering and construction labor/phasing, budgeting, and performance analysis.
  • Strong time management, project organization, and technical analysis skills.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and decision-making abilities, with a focus on technical knowledge and economic analysis.
  • Supports department initiatives and actively develops peers.

Nice to Have

  • P.M.P certification (preferred for levels I and II).
  • MBA (preferred for senior level).
  • P.E. certification (preferred for senior level).

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in engineering, planning, project, construction, or business management (preferred).
  • Six or more years of professional experience as an Engineer or Construction Supervisor (for higher levels).
  • Two or more years of professional experience as a Project Manager I (for level II).
