Job Description

About the Role

The internship is in the Social Media Section, Communications Campaigns Service, Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for social media activities of the Department of Global Communications and the integration of social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, which are critical components of the Department's communications. Interns will support social media content creation, monitoring, and analysis, and assist with special projects related to digital communication at the United Nations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines.
  • Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content.
  • Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.).
  • Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Attend meetings as an observer.
  • Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with software programmes Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or graphic design programmes) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Applicants must provide all necessary hardware (computer), software and internet connection to perform the internship.
  • A completed online application including Cover Note and Personal History Profile is required.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or Portuguese, Kiswahili or Hindi is desirable.
  • Experience with digital photography.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme or the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent).
  • Experience or proficiency with Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop is desirable.
  • Interest or experience in digital photography is desirable.
