About the Role

The Social Media Coordinator serves as the Thunderbird Challenge Program (TCP) resident authority on Digital/Social Media marketing. The role involves creating original social media campaigns, graphics, and content to tell TCP's story to stakeholders, state leaders, and citizens of Oklahoma. The position requires a creative and innovative communications individual with a high degree of awareness and discretion, working closely with program leadership to increase awareness, drive engagement, and serve as the program photographer/videographer. The role reports to the community outreach coordinator and involves managing social media accounts, maintaining the public website, and capturing multimedia content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the program's social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram by developing regular posting schedules and driving audience engagement.
  • Design and produce digital media content such as high-quality written content, graphics, videos, and other interactive materials for social media campaigns.
  • Monitor the program's brand and presence on social media platforms.
  • Build awareness with relevant influencers, including state leaders and partner entities or agencies.
  • Engage online communities to ensure respectful and appropriate interactions.
  • Respond to public comments on each media account.
  • Attend Cadet field trips and events as directed by the program Director.
  • Review digital media analytics to evaluate campaign performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Capture, edit, and publish photos and videos for website, social media, and publications.
  • Act as the program photographer.
  • Monitor, edit, and update all website materials to ensure relevance and currency.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate and utilize digital graphic software applications on Macintosh and/or PC systems, including Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Canva.
  • Experience in designing and producing digital media content including graphics, videos, and written content.
  • Formal training or experience in photography and photo editing, or willingness to attend basic photography/editing training within 90 days.
  • Technical or associate degree in visual communications, design, graphic or commercial art, or closely related field with three years of relevant experience, or sixty semester hours with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to develop original creative work from general descriptions with minimal supervision.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices, and archiving data.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience with web page development and video production hardware and software.

Qualifications

  • Technical or associate degree in visual communications, design, graphic or commercial art, or closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in producing projects such as brochures, signage, or related digital media work.
  • Or sixty semester hours with relevant experience in digital media production.
