About the Role

The Social Media Coordinator is the voice behind the Department of Commerce's online presence—lead coordinator for crafting content, growing community engagement, and boosting visibility across Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. This role involves shaping the agency's brand through strategic planning, trendspotting, and data-driven content, as well as contributing to broader communications efforts such as news releases, speeches, and newsletters. The position supports the department's mission to promote economic development and community prosperity in Kansas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination of social media activities for the Department of Commerce Marketing and Communications Division.
  • Write, develop, teach, manage, and analyze the department's social media presence on all relevant platforms.
  • Research and present new ideas focused on the organization's target audiences.
  • Monitor and share relevant trends and successes on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Assist in designing, writing, producing, and distributing communication materials such as news releases, speeches, feature articles, newsletters, talking points, and presentations.
  • Recognize and implement new communication methods, optimize existing tools, and create greater engagement among businesses, the public, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • One year of experience with proven success in social media, marketing, and/or communications with a public or private organization or agency.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel.

Nice to Have

  • Two years' experience in multi-platform content creation that includes written and visual presentations.
  • Experience working in an economic development setting or working knowledge of economic development.

Qualifications

  • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements include Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate.
