About the Role

Maryland Public Television (MPT) is a public television network that broadcasts throughout Maryland, the District of Columbia, and parts of neighboring states. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of PBS and produces both local and national TV programs and digital content. The organization is launching 'American Graduate: Jobs Explained,' a digital content initiative aimed at helping high school students and young job seekers explore in-demand careers through engaging social media content, supporting workforce development and connecting youth with career opportunities in industries like Agritech, Manufacturing, and Cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the project team to coordinate the development, production, and delivery of social media content supporting the overall goals and objectives of the initiative.
  • Produces 2-3 videos each week for social video-forward platforms, often collaborating with local businesses or being on-screen talent.
  • Manages the @MarylandJobs_Explained social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts) to build, engage, and interact with the audience.
  • Attends weekly meetings with partner stations to share successes, best practices, and advice.
  • Provides internal updates on performance metrics and assists in drafting regular updates and reports for the project funder.
  • Communicates ideas from concept to execution, including storyboarding and audience engagement strategies.
  • Archives videos regularly and manages a content tracking sheet and social publishing schedule.
  • May assist with other projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital video production or social media content creation.
  • Proficiency in creating content for social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube Shorts, with understanding of what works well for each platform.
  • Portfolio or samples of previously created social media video content.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and/or other video editing software.
  • Strong on-camera personality and ability to travel to video shoots.
  • Strong creative thinking skills with the ability to analyze platform trends and develop innovative storytelling approaches.
  • Solid understanding of digital metrics and KPIs, with the ability to use data to inform content strategies.
  • Effective collaboration skills and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Superior writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Experience in content production for young audiences, promotions, digital design, education, or social improvement projects is encouraged.

Nice to Have

  • Experience being on camera.
  • Experience sourcing information and collecting digital assets.
  • Experience with public media or community-focused digital content.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent American education for degrees obtained outside the U.S., as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
