About the Role

The Social Media Student Assistant position at Columbia College is a work-study role designed to support the Social Media Coordinator in engaging audiences through content creation, particularly video content. The role involves managing social media platforms, analyzing performance metrics, and assisting with content production to promote the college's brand and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating weekly content calendars for social media platforms.
  • Tracking social media analytics to identify high-performing posts and campaigns.
  • Performing competitor and market research related to social media trends.
  • Responding to comments and direct messages on TikTok.
  • Brainstorming and researching ideas for original content.
  • Monitoring social media trends to incorporate into content planning.
  • Writing captions that resonate with the college's target audience.
  • Formulating, filming, editing, finalizing, and posting short-form video content on TikTok and other platforms.
  • Assisting with video content shoots.
  • Ensuring brand message consistency across all social media platforms.
  • Providing suggestions to management for improving customer experience on social media.
  • Supporting other duties as assigned, including coverage for events during nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Professional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Reliability, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Comfortability being on camera.
  • Skill level in editing text for grammar.
  • Availability on some nights and weekends for event coverage.
  • Ability to sit for long periods, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, and stoop as needed.
  • Ability to type on a computer keyboard and use a monitor regularly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with social listening and management tools.
  • Experience with video editing and content creation.
  • Experience with social media analytics and trend monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Entry-level experience in social media or related fields preferred.
  • Experience editing videos and creating social media content is advantageous.
