Job Description

About the Role

The Social Media Student Assistant will support Texas A&M Agrilife's social media efforts by creating engaging content, managing platform schedules, contributing to strategic planning, and capturing visual assets. This role is supervised by the Social Media Coordinator and is open only to current Texas A&M University students, focusing on enhancing the agency's online presence through content creation, platform management, and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit and format posts and reels (text, graphics, video) that align with brand voice and visual guidelines.
  • Schedule and publish content across channels (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) using a social media management platform; monitor comments and direct messages; flag urgent issues.
  • Track key metrics (engagement, reach, follower growth); prepare weekly performance summaries.
  • Identify emerging topics, hashtags and platform features; propose timely content ideas.
  • Capture high-quality photos and video on site; assist with basic editing; participate on camera for interviews, live-stream segments and story features.
  • Attend planning meetings; help refine the content calendar and contribute to campaign brainstorms.
  • Ensure all posts reflect the agency's messaging and tag relevant units.
  • Assist with special projects and crisis-communication monitoring as needed.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at Texas A&M University.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and basic analytics tools.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Professional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Coursework or experience in communications, journalism, marketing or related fields.
  • Experience with content-management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and graphic-design applications (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Understanding of AP style and accessibility best practices.
  • Demonstrated creativity and an eye for visual storytelling.
  • Comfortable on camera and adept at collecting and editing photos and videos.

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at Texas A&M University.
