About the Role

As a dedicated Solutions Engineer Staff, you will lead USAA's Guidewire PolicyCenter efforts for our property and casualty insurance company. You will collaborate closely with Business, Architecture, and Development leaders to translate business strategy and architecture into technology vision, blueprints, and detailed designs. This role involves managing solution design delivery, maintaining architectural standards, providing expert guidance, and staying current with emerging technologies to support USAA's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead evaluation, design, and analysis of secure large-scale solutions.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of delivery of solution design, including capturing security requirements, identifying risks & opportunities, and aligning with USAA's technology strategy, Enterprise Architecture standards, and policies.
  • Maintain blueprints, portfolio level designs, and reference architectures of relevant products.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, information security, applications, and infrastructure teams to produce optimal designs.
  • Provide expert guidance on design decisions, standards, operational practices, and technology trends.
  • Communicate problems, risks, and challenges to drive discussions with stakeholders including engineering, operations, developers, and senior leadership.
  • Establish and communicate strategies to senior leadership, industry partners, and business stakeholders, influencing business strategy and decision-making.
  • Provide technical mentorship and drive integration of new technologies ensuring scalability, security, and adaptability.
  • Ensure quality and performance of technology focus areas through reviews, audits, and continuous improvements.
  • Design platforms and ecosystems that support IT architecture in specialized technology focus areas.
  • Stay current with emerging technology trends and identify opportunities to leverage new tools and solutions.
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks associated with business activities in accordance with policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Systems/Management, or related field; or 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years of software development experience demonstrating technical depth across multiple disciplines/technologies.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated leadership driving enterprise technology projects or initiatives.
  • 8+ years of experience delivering solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • 5+ years of progressive architecture design and implementation experience within a large-scale environment.
  • Deep understanding of IT architecture, best practices, and methodologies in specialized technology focus areas.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT risk management frameworks and policies.
  • Ability to drive innovation and deliver high-quality, scalable IT architecture products aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including experience with executive-level communication and creating proposals and presentations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current and emerging technologies affecting business.

Nice to Have

  • Guidewire PolicyCenter experience.
  • Active ACE Certification (current to latest Ski Release).
  • 3+ years of hands-on PolicyCenter development.
  • Experience with APD, Configuration, and Integration development.
  • Guidewire Cloud experience with 2+ years of delivery.
  • Awareness of multi-tenant capabilities: Integration Gateway, Autopilot, App Events.
  • Familiarity with Cloud: Well Architected Framework (AWS).
  • Strong experience delivering APIs and solutions with idempotent principles.
  • Awareness of security, resiliency, performance, and operational excellence.
