About the Role

Amazon Advertising is one of Amazon's most profitable businesses, responsible for defining and delivering a collection of advertising products that drive discovery and sales. The Sr. Applied Science Manager will lead an organization focused on designing, developing, and launching innovative ad experiences delivered to shoppers in conversational contexts and AI agentic applications, utilizing leading-edge science and engineering technologies in generative AI to enhance shopper discovery and advertiser engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Drive transformative GenAI-based innovation for conversational and agentic ad experiences.
Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, and product managers to deliver conversational ad experiences for shoppers and advertisers.
Elevate the team's scientific and technical rigor by identifying and implementing best-in-class algorithms, methodologies, and infrastructure.
Establish a long-term vision for scientific innovation, setting strategic goals to future-proof the organization's technical stacks and ML/LLM frameworks.
Grow talents and foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning to solve complex problems.

Requirements

Experience in developing and deploying applied AI/ML solutions in customer-facing products for 10+ years.
Experience leading teams of applied scientists and engineers to deliver products that satisfy customer needs for 5+ years.
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.

Nice to Have

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Proven track record of delivering scalable and high-quality ML solutions in areas such as recommendations, ad ranking, personalization, or search.
Experience with developing GenAI-based solutions such as conversational experiences and AI agents.

Qualifications

Experience in developing and deploying applied AI/ML solutions in customer-facing products.
Leadership experience in managing teams of scientists and engineers.
Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
