The Strategic Client Executive is responsible for the overall management of a book of National Accounts in the 5,000+ customer segment, focusing on maintenance, growth, and profitability of existing business, as well as strategic direction and client-specific initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain 'solid and appropriate' level relationships with customers and consultants; ensure UHG senior management has customer-specific 'board level' contacts
  • Develop and monitor client financial performance including renewal planning, negotiation and profitability levels
  • Coordinate and influence customer service delivery by developing and maintaining solid intercompany relationships
  • Demonstrate marketing and technical expertise through client, broker, and consultant meetings
  • Assess approach, resources, and contacts needed to complete RFPs
  • Provide feedback to management on market trends as represented by clients
  • Navigate UnitedHealthcare internal departments to produce positive results for clients and the company
  • Maintain a high level of healthcare industry knowledge as well as customer's industry

Requirements

  • 5+ years of sales and client management experience consulting on group employee benefits
  • Appropriate state insurance licenses or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Demonstrated underwriting, financial and analytical skills
  • Relationship management skills & proven track record of building, maintaining and cultivating client relationships
  • Superior customer service skills including a sense of urgency and ownership for resolving client issues
  • Ability to articulate value proposition including clinical and financial aspects
  • Effective communication skills (visual, verbal, written) and ability to develop consensus among stakeholders
  • Ability to flex between competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent group presentation and training skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30%
  • Driver's License and access to reliable transportation

  • Demonstrated problem solver capable of moving quickly within UHG to resolve customer issues
  • Detail-oriented professional with solid organizational and leadership skills
  • Skillful negotiator with strategic vision for accounts
  • Excellent internal and external communication and interpersonal skills, especially with senior-level staff at large employer groups

Qualifications

  • Formal education or experience in sales, client management, or related fields
  • Licensing as required by state insurance laws
