About the Role

The Strategic Account Executive, TPA at UnitedHealthcare is responsible for creating and executing strategic retention and growth plans for assigned customers, serving as a trusted healthcare consultant and business advisor. This role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with customers, brokers, and internal teams, ensuring customer satisfaction, contract renewal, and revenue maintenance. The position aims to merge business skills with relationship building to support the company's mission of improving healthcare experiences and outcomes, with a focus on serving employer groups and managing health and welfare strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Servicing and renewing the customer year over year to ensure loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Establishing, cultivating, and managing relationships with customers at multiple levels, acting as a healthcare consultant and trusted advisor.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and consultants to add value to the customer.
  • Creating and documenting the strategic retention and growth plan for assigned customers within the formal Business Planning process.
  • Strategically planning, negotiating, and influencing interactions with customers, brokers, and internal teams to achieve account goals.
  • Delivering value through plan performance, account management, and service results.
  • Developing a detailed knowledge base of the customer’s business beyond traditional healthcare information.
  • Facilitating the customer lifecycle from RFP to renewal, including new customer implementations.
  • Demonstrating value propositions to upsell specialty and ancillary business, enhancing customer growth and retention.
  • Leading and leveraging internal team members as part of the customer’s Strategic Account Team.
  • Planning and conducting quarterly meetings with customers to identify trends and offer solutions.
  • Preparing and hosting annual strategic planning sessions with customers.
  • Articulating the value story, trend drivers, and tracking solution performance to customers.
  • Participating in or representing account management in special projects.
  • Providing sales and marketing support through participation in presentations and health fairs.
  • Assisting in training and mentoring new team members.

Requirements

  • Utah Insurance license.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible sales and/or service experience.
  • Experience working with brokers and consultants, especially for Key Account groups (100-8,000 employees).
  • Proven ability to meet with brokers and customers in person to establish, influence, and manage relationships.
  • Driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

  • TPA experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of UnitedHealthcare's portfolio of products, marketing, and managed care.
  • Solid working knowledge of business planning and financial/underwriting processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to navigate complex organizations to resolve customer issues.
  • Strong negotiation and leadership skills.
