About the Role

The Student Hourly - Social Media Strategy Assistant at the University of Kansas works with the Outreach & Communication Coordinator to develop and implement social media strategies, create content, participate in community conversations, and explore emerging social trends within a higher education context. The role involves managing social media platforms, creating video content, and supporting strategic initiatives to enhance the university's outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and executing the overall social media strategy, including managing social media platforms and creating video content
  • Create and publish content across multiple social media channels
  • Participate in social listening and contribute to CEAE community conversations
  • Source user-generated content and review social analytics
  • Contribute ideas towards strategic and creative initiatives
  • Explore and research emerging social trends for use in a higher education space
  • Assist with the creation of newsletter and print materials
  • Gather social media analytics
  • Attend relevant campus events to capture live content

Requirements

  • Coursework or work experience demonstrating strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines independently
  • Writing and communication skills
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester appointment
  • For summer periods, must have been enrolled in at least 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester, or be enrolled in summer session
  • Student employees can be undergraduate or graduate students
  • Must be a team player with self-initiative, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude

Nice to Have

  • Full-time enrollment in CEAE major
  • Basic understanding of social media analytics and data collection
  • Experience managing social media content for other brands or organizations
  • Understanding of brand identity and voice
  • Experience with visual content creation, such as photography, videography, or basic graphic design

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the appointment period
  • Experience or coursework demonstrating attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong writing and communication skills
